I won this 5K last time I ran it, but I saw several runners at the beginning of the race that I knew were very likely going to run faster than I can. I ran on this wonderful nearly tropical island with palmetto trees and aligators (a 78 year old male golfer lost an arm to one this week). I ran the 5K in 24:57. After finishing the 5K, I immediately headed out to add 10 more. I ran to Hunting Island and returned. The weather was in the mid 70's with clear skies. I saw dolphins in the water between the islands as I crossed the bridge. The rest of the run was uneventful, but I did fear that the the 5K start could have helped me start the 1/2 marathon much too strong. But, I finished; tired but I did it.
